Using Blender For Profit

A few weeks ago I started a new job at a company that designs interior spaces for optometry offices.  They brought me in to produce renderings for their design and sales team to help potential clients visualize what their new offices could look like.  I will also be working with the research and development department on rendering new product lines in the future.  Since this is new territory for them they wanted me to come in and get the whole system in place from scratch with the ability to train people in the future.  I thought this was a great opportunity to set Blender up in a production environment and to train others in the ways of Blender. Although they were a little skeptical when I told them that I used an open source program for modeling and rendering they seemed to be thoroughly impressed when I produced the first few renderings.

The Cycles render engine has worked great for this. With every project I try to incorporate something new, to push myself to produce a better rendering and to do it in a shorter amount of time.  I still have a ways to go to get the level of quality that I would like to see but with every new project I learn a new trick or two that pushes me in that direction. With the heavy Cycles development and optimization going on right now, things can only get better.
